Managing Your Job Search With Who, What and Where

By Todd B Bavol

When it comes to managing your job search, many factors play a role in your success. You need to nail that resume and ensure that cover letter gets attention. You need to respond to job openings quickly so you can beat the crowd. You also need to ensure the job interview goes perfectly. That's a lot to do. Yet, the area where many people fail is in identifying some key components of this process. In other words, for your job search, you need to answer some basic questions first.

Who Do You Want to Work With?

If you could work with anyone, who would it be? Why not apply there? One of the limitations you may have is that you have yet to identify who you want to be affiliated with and why. Do you even know where your career path is taking you? If you do not take the time to address this concern, you could end up without the type of employment you want and need. Instead, invest the time in identifying who it is that is going to offer you the key opening you need.

What Do You Have to Offer?

The next thing to answer in your job search is what you have to offer. As a hiring manager, the position entails more than just finding someone who has the qualifications for the position. Rather, it is about understanding the whole package. If you do not know what you have to offer the world, chances are good that the hiring manager is not going to know either. Take the time to thoroughly explore this avenue before you go in for an interview.

Where Are the Leads?

Sometimes, you know what your career goals are. You apply for every job opening you can. Yet, you still don't get the call. Why not? It could be because you are not finding every job opening at all. In other words, you need to determine where the leads are. This may be in working with a staffing agency who can help you to gain experience and job skills. The staffing agency can even help you to find a full time job.
Seeking out answers to these questions can help to guide you through the job search process. It can help you to determine what your future holds and what opportunities are out there for you. Define your career goals. Find the help you need through a staffing agency or to improve interview skills. Then pounce on the opportunities.
